Why Is My Country Still Left Out of the Medium Partnership Program?

I’ve been on Medium for a while now, and the experience has been nothing short of awesome. Yet, every time I log in to share my thoughts, I find myself frustrated, staring at a blank ceiling on an empty stomach. Why? Because Medium decided to exclude my beloved country from the Medium Partnership Program.
For those wondering where I’m located, I proudly reside in the most populous black nation on Earth — Nigeria. I understand there are misconceptions about Nigerians, largely fueled by misrepresented narratives in the media. While some stereotypes may hold truths, a significant portion of what the world sees is inaccurately portrayed, tarnishing the image of my country.
Blaming others or the government isn’t my style. My father taught me to take responsibility for what directly affects me and work to change it in my favor. Every time I read success stories on Medium, like “Here’s how much I earned in just 3 weeks — $2,945,” I wonder why I can’t share similar success. The reason? Medium, for reasons known to them, excluded Nigeria from the money-making part, turning our writing into a pastime rather than a potential source of income.
So, I’m using this platform to advocate and appeal to Medium: Please, do something ASAP and include Nigeria in the Medium Partnership Program. We’re not just skilled at creating Afro beats, telling captivating stories in our movies, or making people laugh with comedy skits. We also have talented writers eager to share their stories with the world, and it would make more sense if the dollars started pouring in. As the saying goes, “If it don’t make dollars, it don’t make sense.” Medium, please make it make sense. This is my humble appeal.
