Why FIFA picked Davido over Wizkid?

So fifa 2022 world cup is around the corner and this edition of the biggest world sporting event will be held in Qatar.

This may be the first time the world cup is been hosted in the middle east and there was also another first which is having a Nigerian artiste feature on the official soundtrack or theme song for the competition which happens to be ‘Davido’. On that note, we say congratulations to Davido and of course it’s a big win for the culture even though Nigeria did not make it to the competition.

Before I go any further, I need to clarify that I love both Wizkid and Davido. But, why did FIFA prefer Davido to Wizkid even though Wizkid is a better singer and even won a Grammy award.

Well, this is my personal opinion so please feel free to express yourself in the comment section.

While Wizkid may be a better singer, Davido has a better or more media friendly personality. Unlike wizkid who really isn’t in the media or good for publicity business per se.

Talking about publicity, let use social media as the basis for our analysis. Davido has more followers than wizkid in almost all social media platforms. Let’s use twitter and instagram for reference purposes.

Instagram : Davido = 20.4m / Wizkid = 12.2m

Twitter: Davido = 10.8m / Wizkid = 9.6m

Davido obviously has more followers on Instagram and Twitter. In terms of music streams, Wizkid obviously has more streams than Davido who comes third after Burna boy but that’s not our bowl of contention.

But FIFA and Qatar are more business oriented. Davido has garnered more endorsements deals than wizkid. Ciroc brand dropped Wizkid and opted for Kidwaya because the brand wasn’t doing any better with Wizkid as the Ambassador. I wonder if Kidwaya was any better. Martell endorsed Davido and the brand blew up. Davido is definitely good for business and publicity which is exactly what FIFA is trying to get in Qatar especially since it’s the first time they are hosting this world cup tournament.

Some may argue that why would FIFA or the. World cup need promotion? My dear, even Coca cola still promotes till date.
